For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Blazer EV are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Blazer EV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Chevrolet Blazer EV achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The VinFast VF 8 has not been tested.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV comes with a standard HD Surround Vision and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Blazer EV and VF 8 have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Blazer EV has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 8’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Blazer EV and the VF 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning, available front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Blazer EV is safer than the VinFast VF 8:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chevrolet Blazer EV is safer than the VinFast VF 8:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Blazer EV has larger standard tires than the VF 8 (255/60R19 vs. 225/55R19). The Blazer EV RS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the VF 8 (275/45R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Blazer EV’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the VF 8 Plus’ 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer EV offers optional 22-inch wheels. The VF 8’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The VinFast VF 8 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The VF 8 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Blazer EV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The VF 8 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Blazer EV’s wheelbase is 5.7 inches longer than on the VF 8 (121.8 inches vs. 116.1 inches).

The Blazer EV SS handles at .89 G’s, while the VF 8 Plus pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Blazer EV’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (39.7 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Blazer EV SS has a greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 8 (7.5 vs. 6.8 inches), allowing the Blazer EV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Blazer EV’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the VF 8 (7.9 vs. 6.8 inches).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Blazer EV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 400 pounds less than the VinFast VF 8.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Blazer EV has standard flush composite headlights. The VF 8 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

Cargo Capacity

The Blazer EV has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the VF 8 with its rear seat up (25.5 vs. 13.2 cubic feet). The Blazer EV has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the VF 8 with its rear seat folded (59.1 vs. 48.4 cubic feet).

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Blazer EV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The VF 8 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Blazer EV’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Passive Entry standard on the VF 8 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Blazer EV’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The VF 8’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

Compared to the VinFast VF 8, the Chevrolet Blazer EV RS/SS eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the infotainment system.

The Blazer EV is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the VF 8, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the Blazer EV offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the VF 8.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the Blazer EV equipped with available HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The VF 8, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Chevrolet Blazer EV empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

The Blazer EV’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Blazer EV is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The VF 8 has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Blazer outsold the VinFast VF 8 by over 16 to one during 2024.
