J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.
From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 5 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Equinox uses regular unleaded gasoline. The XT4 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.
Transmission
The Equinox FWD has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better maneuverability, the Equinox’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the XT4’s (37.1 feet vs. 38 feet).
For greater off-road capability the Equinox LT/ACTIV has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XT4 (8.1 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Equinox to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Equinox RS’ minimum ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher than on the XT4 (8.2 vs. 6.7 inches).
Chassis
The Chevrolet Equinox may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 pounds less than the Cadillac XT4.
Passenger Space
The Equinox has 3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XT4 (104.3 vs. 101.3).
