Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 41 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is ranked 20th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 4 places higher in reliability than GMC.
Tires and Wheels
The Silverado HD LT/LTZ/High Country’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Sierra HD’s optional 65 series tires.
Cargo Capacity
The Silverado HD has stake post holes, to allow the containment of tall, light loads. The Sierra HD doesn’t offer stake post holes.
Towing
Maximum trailer towing in the GMC Sierra HD is limited to 31580 pounds. The Silverado 3500 HD Regular Cab offers up to a 36,000 lbs. towing capacity.
